In this paper, we present a reliability based framework for how sliding stability analyses could be performed to better account for the prevailing uncertainties. The paper gives an overview of the proposed framework together with the basic principles for reliability based assessment of the sliding stability and Bayesian updating. In an illustrative example, the stability of an existing Swedish concrete dam is assessed showing how information from investigations and tests can be used to reduce uncertainties and increase the reliability of the dam.
