Integrated (smart) pavement design and performance prediction

As an umbrella theme, the group is continuously working towards creating tools that can be used to enhance the design and predictability of roads as integrated systems. This includes the development of new test protocols to have a better understanding of the long-term performance of pavement materials under the combined environmental and mechanical loading. It also entails the coupling of results from characterization techniques to create validated models that can assist in computational design of integrated pavements, to be used for maintenance decisions of existing roads but also for design of smart infrastructure that may include new components and new materials.
