Life cycle analyses and life cycle cost analyses are used today and are under rapid development in construction and infrastructure projects. Analyses are normally carried out and drawn up <luring the design and planning phase by Trafikverket and its consultant. Such a methodology for integrating into the geotechnical design process is being developed in an ongoing BIG doctoral project. However, <luring the production phase, an environmental specialist from the contractor and Trafikverket is present, hut the link between site management, geotechnical engineers, and environmental specialists is very often lacking and thus the process is often slow. There is a great need here for a rigorous and transparent methodology for fast and simple decision-making that is based on a clear sustainability perspective, where methods and materials can be quickly replaced. The methodology must take into account uncertainties, which in the construction phase can be predicted in a significantly better way, and is supplemented with models for information and knowledge transfer and decision theory. Studies have shown that insufficient communication isa cause ofthe construction industry's difficulties in development. The purpose ofthe project is to develop such a methodology where the contractor and Trafikverket together will be able to use the methodology in order to quickly, rationally, and transparently revise and update the LCA/LCCA analyses prepared in the early design stages.
