About KTH Byggvetenskap
KTH Byggvetenskap is the Swedish name of our department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology.
The department of Civil and Architectural Engineering was formed in 2001 by gathering the technical disciplines at KTH involved in education and researchfor structural engineering of the built environment, construction management and technological adaptation to environmental constraints due to e.g. rock mechanics and hydraulic conditions.. Both the housing- and plant construction are represented. As for the housing construction area the level of competence is well established on both depth as well as width and the education and research competence are adapted to the need of the sector. Building acoustics, material- and building services areas as well as structural design represent key component of the profile. The department also hascapacity in terms of professor in Rock- and Soil mechanics, a professor in River Engineering and a professorin Structural design and bridges. Research and postgraduate education are well integrated. The department currently has 14 professors of which 2 are visiting professors. The technical branches of learning, subject areas, are organized into 8 divisions. These are Building Materials, Building Services Engineering (including Safety ventilation), Building Technology (including building acoustics), Concrete Structures, Environmental and Natural Resources Information System, Highway and Railway Engineering, Soil- and Rock Mechanics, Steel Structures, Structural Design,River Engineering, Fluid and Climate Technology and Bridges (including Steel structures)
