About Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering

The department of Civil and Architectural Engineering was formed in 2001 by gathering the technical disciplines at KTH involved in education and research for structural engineering of the built environment, construction management and technological adaptation to environmental constraints due to e.g. rock mechanics and hydraulic conditions. Both the housing- and plant construction are represented. As for the housing construction area the level of competence is well established on both depth as well as width and the education and research competence are adapted to the need of the sector. Building acoustics, material- and building services areas as well as structural design represent key component of the profile. The department also has capacity in terms of professor in Rock- and Soil mechanics, and a professor in Structural design and bridges. Research and postgraduate education are well integrated.

The technical branches of learning, subject areas, are organized into 7 divisions. These are Building Materials, Sustainable buildings, Concrete Structures, Constructional Engineering and Design, and Rock Mechanics, Structural Engineering and Bridges and Transport Planning.
