Rock mechanics and design of tunnel support

Tunnel under construction

In the design and construction of rock engineering structures, it is crucial to understand the mechanical properties of the rock mass, in order to ensure sufficient structural stability. The research field includes, among other things, determination of rock mechanical parameters and design of tunnel support. Improving the understanding of rock mechanics facilitates the improvement of structural design methodologies, which in turn facilitates a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly construction of rock engineering structures. We have a considerable experience of research within rock mechanics, especially regarding the mechanical properties of rock joints. The research is carried out through experiments, as well as by using analytical and numerical calculation tools.
