MMiB Modern Mobility in Barkarby

In this project self-driving buses are fully integrated into the public transport system. This is the first European project which deploys autonomous vehicles in an existing public transport system. In the later stages of the project the autonomous bus lines will be combined with high speed buses (Buss Rapid Transfer) between Barkarby station, Barkarby city and Akalla. The project aims at implementing an integrated and sustainable mobility solution in Barkarby city from economic, social and environmental perspectives. The project provides an integrated autonomous and non-autonomous bus service in Barkaby, as an alternative to provide a better public transport service in a fast-growing city.

The research is framed around:

  1. Simulation-based evaluation of the impacts for users of autonomous minibuses in Barkarby and
  2. Simulation-based evaluation of ridership and VKT by users under various transport network designs in Barkarby

Self-driving buses in Barkarby, Sweden.

The focus lies in:

  1. Simulation of Travel Patterns including autonomous minibuses
  2. Evaluation of several possible operational scenarios with varying degrees of flexibility. Estimated benefits in terms of e.g. reduced travel times and waiting times
  3. Conclusions regarding suitability of different network designs from a user perspective
