Implementation: 2018-2021

Integrating real-time network management and improved methods for timetable planning is essential for efficient rail network management, especially during both minor and major disturbances. This will make both passenger and freight rail services more competitive.

Currently, network planning and real-time management are disconnected. This disconnect needs to be eliminated. This concept is based on maintaining a continuously conflict-free traffic plan that is updated in both planning and real-time, and that is likely to be consistent with operational constraints for railway undertakings, and for yard and terminal managers. This enables automation, ensures feasibility of operational contingencies, and enables more efficient co-operation between infrastructure managers, railway undertakings, and yard or terminal managers.

The work package will deliver a demonstrator for improved short-term planning and daily planning. Requirements will be specified for a demonstrator for testing real time network management concepts.
